Advisory Council Complements Arizona Commerce Authority Board
PHOENIX – By Executive Order today, Governor Jan Brewer established a new council focused on business opportunities and job growth in rural Arizona. The Rural Business Advisory Council will provide direct assistance to the Arizona Commerce Authority and rural communities in organizing, coordinating and implementing business development strategies to diversify economies by bringing in new business and creating jobs for Arizonans. Governor Brewer is dedicating $2 million of discretionary stimulus funding to advance rural economic development that will lead to more quality jobs in rural areas.

Donor Dollars Double in effort to help Arizonans impacted by disasters
PHOENIX – Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., a leading international mining company headquartered in Phoenix, has generously offered to match every donation through December 31, 2010, up to a total of $80,000, to help Arizonans impacted by disasters. “Freeport-McMoRan is committed to the well-being and safety of our communities. By offering to match donations made to the Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter, we’re hoping to encourage those who can give, to make a donation to help disaster victims in their communities get on the road to recovery,” said Tracy Bame, President, Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Foundation.

Leader of Drug Conspiracy “Rip Crew” Sentenced to 15 Years in Federal Prison

PHOENIX — Juan Victor Munoz, 30, Sixto Alonzo Castro, 26, Modesto Castro, 28 all of Phoenix, Arizona; and Bobby Joe Pierce, 31 of Modesto, California, were sentenced on Tuesday by U.S. District Court Judge Frederick J. Martone for charges related to their role as a "rip crew"in a drug conspiracy. The court sentenced Munoz, the leader of the crew, to 15 years in prison. Munoz has prior felony convictions which include a conviction for attempted burglary, escape and a drug trafficking offense.
After a jury trial held April 27 to May 5, 2010, a jury found Munoz guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine; possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense (aid and abet); and felon in possession of a firearm.

Quartzite Man Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison

PHOENIX. – Edwin Francis Lamken, 59, of Quartzite, Arizona, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Susan R. Bolton yesterday to 18 months in prison for stealing benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Lamken was also ordered to pay $173,862 in restitution. Lamken pleaded guilty in April to wire fraud.
Lamken was discharged from the military on February 12, 1971, “under conditions other than honorable,” based in part on a court martial for theft of government property. ....more
