Bankruptcy Filings Up 20 Percent in June

Bankruptcy filings rose 20 percent in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2010, according to statistics released today by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. A total of 1,572,597 bankruptcy cases were filed in federal courts in that period, compared to 1,306,315 bankruptcy cases filed in the 12-month period ending June 30, 2009. This is the highest number of bankruptcy filings for any period since many of the provisions of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 took effect.
Additional statistics released today include business and non-business filings for the 12-month period ending June 30, 2010; a comparison of June 2009 and 2010 filings; monthly filings for the 12-month period ending June 30, 2010; and filings per capita.

Major property transfer for Sacramento business park

SACRAMENTO, California (AFNS) -- Officials from the Air Force and Sacramento County, together with McClellan Business Park and environmental regulators celebrated the largest property transfer to date Aug. 12 at the former McClellan Air Force Base here.
The ceremony marked the transfer of 560 acres including a variety of industrial facilities, office buildings, a hotel and housing. An innovative, multiagency agreement referred to as an early transfer with privatized cleanup facilitated the transfer from the Air Force to Sacramento County and then to McClellan Business Park, the developer for the former base, bringing the total acreage transferred to approximately 1,300 acres.

Phoenix International Relations Director Elected to Board of Directors

Paula West, city of Phoenix International Relations Office executive director, was elected to her second three-year term on the board of directors of Sister Cities International and also elected to the board’s executive committee at the recent Sister Cities International 2010 annual conference in New Mexico.
