Paterno funeral arrangements announced

Public viewings Tuesday and Wednesday at Pasquerilla Spiritual Center; "A Memorial for Joe" set for Thursday in Bryce Jordan Center

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The family of Joe Paterno has completed the funeral arrangements for the legendary Penn State educator, coach and humanitarian, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 22. Two public viewings will be held, as well as a public memorial, “A Memorial For Joe,” on the University Park campus.

A public viewing will take place from 1 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, and from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, located near the intersection of Curtin Road and Allen Street on campus. Parking information for Paterno viewing and memorial services

Penn State has released parking information for those planning to travel to University Park this week for Joe Paterno's public viewing and memorial service. Paterno, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 22.

Public viewing (Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, Jan. 24 and 25):

A public viewing will be held from 1 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center on Penn State's University Park campus. A second public viewing is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 25, also at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, with a private family funeral service also on Wednesday.

Statement by the Paterno family on the passing of Joe Paterno

It is with great sadness that we announce that Joe Paterno passed away earlier today. His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled.

He died as he lived. He fought hard until the end, stayed positive, thought only of others and constantly reminded everyone of how blessed his life had been. His ambitions were far reaching, but he never believed he had to leave this Happy Valley to achieve them. He was a man devoted to his family, his university, his players and his community.

University community mourns loss of Joe Paterno

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania State University and college athletics mourns the passing of Joseph V. Paterno, the winningest coach in the history of major college football.

Paterno, who turned 85 last month, passed away today (Jan. 22) surrounded by his family at Mount Nittany Medical Center, near the University Park campus. The legendary teacher, mentor and humanitarian had been diagnosed with lung cancer last November and recently had been hospitalized.

A member of the Penn State coaching staff for 62 seasons, Paterno tremendously impacted the lives of thousands of current and former Penn State students, student-athletes and staff, Nittany Lion fans, State College community members and followers of college athletics. The Nittany Lions' head football coach for nearly 46 years, he was among the first three active coaches to be inducted into the National Football Foundation's College Hall of Fame, in 2007.

AF to release draft impact statement on proposed F-35 pilot training center

WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- The Air Force will file a draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed establishment of an F-35 Lightning II pilot training center within the continental United States Jan 20.

The current Air Force and Air National Guard installations under consideration are: Boise Air Terminal Airport Air Guard Station, Idaho; Holloman AFB, N.M.; Luke AFB, Ariz.; and Tucson International Airport Air Guard Station, Ariz.
